Van driving on a dirt road through the mountains

Traverse is dedicated to building out well functioning, and uniquely designed adventure vehicles. Our design strategy is modern and bright, rich with wood and textures. We also believe a healthy interior is important. Our designs include water based adhesives, and we strive to use materials that are low in VOC's wherever we can. We have a passion for living a life that enables adventure and it's our mission to help you achieve that too.

Our Journey.

It all started in Colorado, years ago.

Like many of us, our initial adventures started off sleeping in a tent. When we lived in Denver we spent many weekends driving hours to biking destinations in CO, WY or UT.  We would arrive in the dark and still have to set up camp. After a while we decided to look for an adventure vehicle that when we arrived to camp we were pretty much set up. This would be our VW Vanagon. In between trips we would build it out more to suit our adventures and to carry the necessary gear.

A few years later we replaced it with a Sprinter van giving us more capacity and let's just say a lot more power. Starting with an empty shell, the possibilities were endless. Modifications were happening which kept us reading and researching when it was too late to work. We added electrical, water tanks and several systems to include welding up bed and cabinet frames. We squeezed in trips whenever we could to celebrate these big (at the time) victories. It was all a lot of work, and yet we were having so much fun doing it. The whole time it carried us and all of our gear so that we could stay comfortably and play hard. What more could you ask for? How about to do it full time?

  • Our Why.

We have lived it:  We've been fortunate enough to spend a year and a half living full time on the road.  We met a lot of people in our travels, and one topic that always seem to come up around the campfire is choice of adventure vehicle.  We've also tried a few different vehicles ourselves to know what to look for depending on how you like to adventure.  It seems that nothing is perfect for everything, but there is a best fit for each individual situation.

We have worked on it:  Having spent a lot of time pulling apart, and working on converted vehicles we found a lot of nice looking cabinetry with questionable choices underneath.  People who paid for high end work, that received mediocre components or questionable workmanship.  Often times it is simply a mismatch between the various components that make up the entire system.  With formal education in Industrial Design we are trained to really think about the entirety of what demands will be put on the vehicle systems, how it will be used, and to build accordingly.

We are passionate about it:  OK so maybe geek is a better description, but we really do enjoy curling up with a good instruction manual or two in our free time.  A vehicle that can perform as an abode has much more to consider compared to a house.  Sure you have the normal systems like structure, insulation, materials, plumbing, and 110 volt electric.  Add to that all of the systems needed to perform off grid, then finally make it all work together and safe while traveling down the highway at 70 MPH.  It takes a lot of time and research to get it right, and believe me you want it to be done right.

We want it to be sustainable and healthy:  Our accreditations in sustainability help to inform our product choices.  The building materials, adhesives, and sealants used to build out a space have a significant effect on your health, wellbeing, and the environment.  We research products and materials on a continual basis for off-gassing, sustainable certifications, recycled content, that are more durable in use, that do not promote mold growth, and more.  Not only do we have to work with these items during the build out, but you have to live with them while occupying your space.  We seek and build relationships with vendor partners not because everyone in the industry is using them, but because their product is top quality, safe and provides outstanding value to you.

We want it to look and feel right:  Our background in Interior Design brings with it the ability to create aesthetically pleasing interiors that are bright and warm with a modern aesthetic.  Standing out from the rest. This means still enjoying some comforts of your home while adventuring, yet never losing sight that room for gear is important too.  You never know, once you start traveling in this luxury you may decide to do it more!
